Southeast CASA has 30 dedicated volunteers and a team of 3 staff working to advocate for abused and neglected children in our region. We are one of seven CASA programs in South Dakota and a proud member of both the State CASA Association and the National CASA/GAL Association.

Southeast CASA is a private non-profit founded in 2011 after Retired Magistrate Judge Mary Dell Cody led the effort to bring a CASA program to southeastern South Dakota. With start-up funding from the National CASA Association, the Board launched services in Yankton County in 2012 and trained the first six volunteers.
Since then, Southeast CASA has expanded to serve Bon Homme, Clay, Turner, Yankton, and Union Counties. Nearly 400 children have received advocacy through our program, many facing challenges related to substance use, mental health, poverty, and limited support systems.
Our work is sustained through grants and, most importantly, community donations that allow us to ensure every child in the family court system has a voice. CASA programs focus on safe reunification whenever possible, and we continue to recruit and train volunteers so no child has to wait for an advocate.
